Strawberry Hill House 'Creative Home & Garden Festival'

For those not familiar with Strawberry Hill House, it is a magnificent and magical Gothic Revival castle, the creation of Horace Walpole. With its turrets, spires and intricate gilded ceilings, it is truly like something out of a fairy tale, and has been recently restored to its full glory. Such is the uniqueness and beauty of the castle, that it has been featured in the April edition of Elle Decoration.

It is a privilege to be able to participate at this event, amongst so many talented individuals. There are still some tickets available, for more information on the event and to see how to book tickets, please take a look here.
In my January post, I wrote about the trend for dreamy pastels, which is now really being seen everywhere, in fashion, make-up and interior design. As cushions are the easiest way to update your look and infuse your home with what is new, I decided to make a pastel cushion collection to show at the Strawberry Hill House event.

The collection features linen and cotton in timeless pastel shades and floral designs, by English designers Sarah Hardaker, of Sarah Hardaker Bespoke Fabric and Wallpaper , and Caroline Smith, of Flohr & Co , as well as some more vivacious turquoise and aqua contemporary patterns, from collections by 'Olivia Bard' and Warwick Fabrics .  All the cushions work especially well with grey, which has lost nothing of its popularity,  and can be mixed together for an eclectic look.

Linen cushions in Sarah Hardaker 'Florence', 'Torcello' and 'Delfine' and Flohr & Co 'Luella'

Sarah Hardaker 'Florence' and 'Delfine' linen, Warwick Fabrics cotton from the 'Simply Stripes' collection and 'Luella' linen from Flohr & Co.

I have also made up a small collection of gorgeous soft patterned linen for the nursery and older children, by Flohr & Co. As a mother of a boy, I sought out unique patterns for boys, who so often seem to be neglected by designers.

"Caroline Smith, of Flohr & Co, first started designing for boys when her friend was unable to find anything suitable for her boy's bedroom, and her collection has grown from there. Her stylish designs will please parents, whilst also remaining  playful and boyish, and bridge that difficult gap between little boy to pre-teen."

'Dinoroar' is my absolute favourite and I had great fun centering him using my cushion template, above.

Other motifs feature classic planes, cars and trains, as well as tanks and battleships and stars  (see Flohr & Co website)

For the nursery, my son's beloved 'Big Bunny' sits happily on subtle stars in grey and powder blue. This pattern also comes in soft pink and grey.

For something a little more contemporary and lively, I picked  a few key linen fabrics from my favourite collection by Warwick Fabrics, 'Serendipity', and cottons from new collections 'Pied Beauty' and 'Calm Bazaar', by all English brand 'Olivia Bard'. With designs in soft aquas, pinks, vivid turquoise, pistachio and powder blue, these cushions pop with colour, and deliver an uplifting, contemporary eclectic look.

Warwick's 'Serendipity' collection includes Suzani swirls, a distressed tree of life, abstract zebra stripes and multi scale geometrics.

The 'Calm Bazaar' collection derives its inspiration from the drama and commotion of the Eastern market places, the movement and pattern of the souks, along with atmospheric ikats, timeless paisleys and geometric Moorish tiled designs. Its calm palette of colours provides a retreat to an oasis of tranquillity, such as is experienced with the opening and closing of the door behind one, and passage into a secret Marrakesh Riad.

The cushions shown here, represent only a small part of these collections, visit Warwick and Olivia Bard's websites to see the full range of fabrics.

Designs in cotton from 'Olivia Bard'. These fabrics would work wonderfully in any room, as curtains, blinds, or cushions, but I do think these would look especially good in a teenage girl's bedroom, or in the bathroom.

These cushions will be on sale on 10th and 11th March at Strawberry Hill House, entrance by advance booking. They can also be ordered directly from me, by contacting me at [email protected] Bespoke orders are also possible. Prices range from £35 to £60  and include a luxury feather filled pad.
